This is my first newsletter.
I have been making YouTube videos since 2016, where I created a channel focusing on posting funny videos that had a bit of information in them, I made myself look like a fool, but it was all for the sake of growing a following on YouTube (see figure 1). In September 2016, I decided to privatise all my videos because I wanted to look professional. I gave up on YouTube in order to pursue a masters, and then a PhD.
Figure 1: Screenshot of my old YouTube video, highly embarrassing, but at least I got a taste of posting consistently on YouTube.
It was in February 2021, after watching many videos by the prominent YouTuber Ali Abdaal, where he would advocate people starting and maintaining a YouTube channel, that I was finally convinced myself to re-start my YouTube channel.
In this weekly newsletter, I will share with you my personal reflections on YouTube, PhD life, Academia and also finance. Next week I will share why I have made a deeper focus on personal finance on my channel and why I believe it is very important that well empower ourselves with this knowledge.
Looking forward to writing for you again. By the way, the “figure 1” thing is a joke to do with writing academically, something that I do way too often, so its nice to write informally like this.
